Bangla Sahib Gurudwara New Delhi

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most famous sikh gurudwara, situated on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in the heart of Delhi - Connaught Place. The Gurudwara bangla sahib is instantly noticeable by its marble structure, the golden dome and Nishan Sahib. This golden domed gurudwara is visited by people of various religions, races, and nationalities. It is known after the eighth sikh guru, Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji.

The grounds include the Gurudwara, a kitchen, a large (holy) pond, a school and an art gallery. It has a multi-storey vehicle-parking facility, cool drinking water facility, and clean public washrooms, on its campus. There is a museum and art gallery where excellent pictures have been placed displaying the history of Sikhism and their gurus.

There are some tips for trvellers like:
- Keep your head covered with any scarf, dupatta, saree-pallu, or handkerchief when present inside the complex.
- Shoes are forbidden on the gurudwara campus. Leave them on a shoe rack available at shoe-counter, near its entrance.
- Wear clothes that aren’t supposedly revealing or indecent.
- Photography is prohibited within the gurudwara.
- Maintain silence when you are venturing inside.

A basket containing head-scarves is placed near its entry point. Visitors can pick up and return back these scarves without paying a fee. Inside the complex, a detailed white marble work is done in the entire place. Bangla Sahib looks really beautiful from a distance with a perfect combination of white building and Golden dome. The structure is huge and it can take half day to see the entire place in one go.

There are lot of things to do in the gurudwara like.
- Attend the prayer sessions conducted inside, to gain spiritual experience.
- Book a room of your choice in the ‘Yatri Niwas’, for an extended stay.
- Get Karah (Holy) Prasad for yourself and your family.
- Eat langar with other visitors, in its dining hall. The langar’s menu includes chapaati, vegetable-based curry, dal, and kheer.
- You can volunteer to clean campus floors, serve in the kitchen, or take care of visitors’ shoes near the gate counter.
- Learn about various historical events of Sikhism by visiting the Baba Baghel Singh Museum & Art Gallery.
- Tour its Khalsa Girl’s School and operational basement hospital.
- Enjoy the surreal beauty of its on-campus ‘Sarovar’ during sunrise and sunset time.

As practiced in all Gurudwaras all over the world, here too Langar (holy vegetarian food) is practised.  Langar is served to hundreds of people every 20 minutes. The Langar (food) is prepared by gursikhs who work there and also by volunteers who like to help out. Langar Hours: Only vegetarian food is served. Timings are tentatively from 9AM to 3PM & 7PM to 10PM.

On can easily reach the gurudwara through metro, cab or any other local transport system. There are multiple mode of transport which you can take to reach here like Shivaji Stadium metro station (its Airport Express line), Rajiv Chowk metro, and Patel Chowk metro are the closest metro stations. However, you can take a stroll or a vehicle to reach this place from the metro stations. The ‘New Delhi Railway station’ is the only railway station nearest to it. Personally to me, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is such a place which gives me peace and it is the place where I can sit for long hours listening to the Shabads/Kirtan

I made a video Vlog of my visit. Check out the video below:
